Classification schemes for libraries
GesamtHochschulBibliotheks-Systematik (GHBS)![]()

German library classification standard originally developed in the 1960s forthe North-Rhine-Westfalian (NRW) University libraries established in thesame period (i.e. Duisburg, Essen, Siegen, Paderborn and Wuppertal).
Today it is also used by other libraries in NRW. The GHBS is offered for download by the HBZ (Hochschulbibliothekszentrum NRW) either as zipped HTML file or as postscript file.

German library classification scheme consisting of 49 main classes with approx. 8000 notations. Its main classes are represented by a three-letter mnemonic letter codes, the subclasses by three-letter digital codes. The scheme is mainly, but not strictly hierarchically organized.
